I was up and out on the lakefront trail early this morning, early enough to get to see some of the marathon runners go by. The first batch were wheelchair racers, going by about as fast as a bicycle.
A little later, as I rode alongside the race route, a small group of skinny men came by and went. They had a motorized escort with big clocks, so I assume these were the contenders for first place.
I ride around 15 kph on my tricycle, which is about as fast as an average American adult non-runner can run for a short distance. And these marathon runners just passed me like I was a tree in the park.

That’s when you realize just how fast these guys are! Zoom!
