After my short visit to Ft Knox, I stopped at the Bridges to the Past. This is a short walk along an old turnpike through a lovely woodland valley, limestone bluffs on one side, a creek on the other, and a set of 150-year old stone bridges. The turnpike was originally constructed in the 1830’s and allowed travellers to reach Nashville from Louisville in three days by stagecoach.
The walk is on Ft Knox grounds, and since the area was used extensively for artillery practice in the WW I era, hikers are requested to stay on the trail, and not wander off to where there may be unexploded ordnance.
